Weather In Month of April

 

Maximum Temperatures: Maximum Temperatures during the first two weeks were near normal or slightly below normal. They rose gradually afterwards and were 2-3 deg. C above normal. During the last three days of the month heat wave conditions prevailed in parts wherein temperatures remained above 40 deg. C which were  4-5 deg. C above normal.

 

Minimum Temperatures : Minimum Temperatures were near normal with a variation of ± 2 deg. C during the month. They remained below 20 deg. C except during the last three days when they were above 20 deg. C and were 2 deg. C above normal. Daily time series for Maximum and Minimum Temperature is attached with.

 

Rainfall: Punjab State recorded about 21 mm of rainfall in the month of April against normal rainfall of 12.1 mm which is excess during the month for the State as a whole. Rainfall was normal to excess almost all  the District except for Amritsar and Sangrur District wherein  Deficient and Scanty rainfall was observed.

Weather In Previous Month (May)

 

Maximum Temperatures:  May is warmer month in the state with Mean Maximum temperature ranging from 39 to 41 deg. C in the state. Except for the first few days, during the first half of the month  Maximum Temperatures  were near / slightly below normal and were generally below 40 deg. C. They rose gradually afterwards and remained above 40 deg. C during the second half of the month. Heat wave conditions prevailed on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th , 19th and 20th May wherein temperatures were appreciably above normal.

 

Minimum Temperatures : During the first few days and the third week of the month Minimum Temperatures were above  normal. In the remaining period they were near/below normal. The variation was   ± 3 deg. C from the normal during the month.

 

Rainfall:      Punjab State recorded about 4.7  mm of rainfall in the month of May against normal rainfall of 15.6 mm which was deficient for the state as whole. Rainfall was Deficient to santy in most of the districts except for Batinda, Jallandhar, Kapurthala, Moga Nawanshar and Mukatsur districts wherein it was normal to excess.  Weekwise rainfall distribution for districts of Punjab for the month of May is mentioned below.

EXCESS:         Bhatinda, Jallandhar, Kapurthala, Moga and Muktsar districts.

 

NORMAL:       Nawanshahr district.

 

DEFICIENT:  Amritsar, Ferozepur, Hoshiarpur and Ludhiana districts.

 

SCANTY:        Gurdaspur, Ropar and Sangrur districts. 

 

NO RAIN:       Faridkot, Fatehgarh Sahib and Patiala districts.

 

WEEK’S RAINFALL (07.05. 2009 TO 13.05.2009)

 

SCANTY:        Gurdaspur and  Ropar  districts.   

 

NO RAIN:       Bhatinda, Jallandhar, Kapurthala, Moga , Muktsar ,  Sangrur

     Amritsar,   Ferozepur,   Faridkot,   Fatehgarh Sahib ,   Patiala

     Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, Nawanshahr districts.

EXCESS:       Nawanshahr district.

 

NORMAL:     Gurdaspur  district.

 

SCANTY:       Hoshiarpur and Ludhiana districts. 

 

NO RAIN:      Amritsar, Bhatinda,   Fatehgarh Sahib , Ferozepur, Jalandhar

                       Kapurthala, Moga, Muktsar, Patiala , Ropar and Sangrur districts.

 

 

WEEK’S RAINFALL (21.05. 2009 TO 27.05.2009)

 

NORMAL:      Patiala  district.

 

DEFICIENT:  Fatehgarh Sahib district.

 

SCANTY:       Amritsar, Bhatinda,  Gurdaspur, Patiala and Sangrur  districts. 

 

NO RAIN:      Ferozepur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Moga, Muktsar

                       Ludhiana and  Nawanshahr districts.
