II. Scheme of Sub-allocation

This district was to receive its own colonists and about half the displaced persons of Sialkot district The sub-allocation for Sialkot district was as follows;

The residuary areas of allocation were: Hoshiarpur for Sialkot and Pasrur tahsil; Pepsu for Daska tahsil; and Gurdaspur—Ajnala for Narowal and Shakargarh tahsils. For tahsils Daska and Pasrur, provision was made for those already settled in Gurdaspur district but for Sialkot tahsil, a slightly larger area was provided with a view to accommodating people belonging to villages whose populations were temporarily settled in the district in substantial measure.

Among those entitled to settlement in Gurdaspur district it was proposed that

 

(1) colonists of grade III and above should be settled in nehri circles in grade I of Gurdaspur overflow to  be settled in grade II of Gurdaspur and villages where increase of irriga­tion or new irrigation was expected;

(2) those who had abandoned chahi-barani areas should be settled on similar lands subject to consideration of grades ; also colo­nists of grade IV

(3) displaced persons from the Bet Ravi tracts of Sialkot dis­trict should be settled in the Bet Ravi tracts of Gurdaspur and those from Bet Chenab should be settled in Bet Beas

(4) Dogras from Sialkot district (including Shakargarh), who were not to continue in their villages of temporary allot­ment, should receive preference in Pathankot tahsil and in villages near Dinanagar in Gurdaspur tahsil;

(5) displaced persons from the submontane area of Sialkot should be settled in the Pahari and Dokandi circles of Pathankot tahsil.

 

III. Sub-allocation Adjustments

(1) Instructions dated the l2th December, 1949:

(a) Claims of non-sitting allottees of Narowal tahsil, grade IV, area 2567 standard acres, transferred to Amritsar settlement in Ajnala tahsil;

(b) Transfer to Hoshiarpur of claims of Pasrur tahsil and Sialkot tahsil, grade IV, area 936 and 412 standard acres respectively.

(2) Instructions dated the 30th December, 1949: Transfer of the following claims for settlement in Kapurthala district:—

(a) Daska tahsil, grade I, non-sitting allottees

(b) Claims of Daska, Pasrur and Sialkot tahsils, non-sitting allottees, grades II, III and IV area 5883, 1104 and 1949 standard acres respectively.

(3) Instructions dated the 15th January. 1950:

(a)    Transfer back to Gurdaspur from Hoshiarpur of claims amounting to 1242 standard acres of persons holding temporary allotment in Gurdaspur district and entitled to settlement therein;

(b)   Transfer to Kapurthala of claims of all grades of non- i sitting allottees of all the tahsils of Sialkot district for i whom land was not available in Gurdaspur, subject to the proviso that in passing claims of Shakargarh tahsil to Kapurthala, those of Dogra Rajputs should be accommo­dated in Gurdaspur.

(4) Instructions dated the l4th February, 1930:

Claims amounting to 1767 standard acres representing non-sitting allottees to be transferred to Jullundur. As re­gards the claims of temporary allottees of Gurdaspur, amount ing to 692 standard acres, 304 acres of non-suburban land available in Gurdaspur and 205 standard acres of suburban land (which carried a higher value for allotment) was to be utilised, any balance remaining over being passed to Jullundur.
